Duration And Location (DUAL) control system: a novel genetic ablation system to manipulate gene expression in regenerating discs.
The DUAL control system can induce cell death and promote regeneration in the wing imaginal disc. This system can be used to study damage responses and identify regulators of regeneration in the imaginal wing disc.

The components of the system include:
- P{R85E08-lexA.DBD}attP2 (blue): Expresses lexA DNA binding domain under the control of DNA sequences in or near salm (FBgn0261648) which is in the distal imaginal wing disc.
- P{Hsp70-p65.AD}attP40 (yellow): Expresses the p65 activation domain upon heat shock.
- P{lexAop-hep.CA}su(Hw)attP5 OR P{13xlexAop2-rpr.H}su(Hw)attP5 (purple): Expresses constitutively active hep (FBgn0010303) OR rpr (FBgn0011706) under the control of the lexA operator. This induces cell death only in cells where both the lexA.DBD and p65.AD are expressed.
- PBac{R42A07(FRT.stop)GAL4}VK00027 (light blue): Expresses GAL4 under the control of DNA sequences in or near dve (FBgn0020307) upon removal of a stop cassette by FLP recombinase. dve expression is in the imaginal wing disc.
- P{hsFLP}22 (pink): Expresses FLP upon heat shock.
- UAS-transgene (red): a transgene expression of choice to manipulate regenerating cells of the wing disc.
