Kathy Matthews, co-founder of the Bloomington Drosophila Stock Center, passed away Saturday, March 17th after a short, but devastating illness. She served as director of the BDSC for 32 years from its inception in 1986 and helped co-found FlyBase in 1992. Both institutions benefited immeasurably from her wisdom, dedication and passion for resource development. It is easy to say that without Kathy, the fly community would not be what it is today. She is greatly missed.
